After many different designs, the Digital VCA MKIII is the final version of WMD's very comprehensive VCA.

The Digital VCA allows the signal to pass through like a normal VCA, but the CV and attenuation levels are controlled digitally. This allows things like waiting for a zero crossing to change the amplitude, resulting in click-free amplitude changes. 

In trigger mode, the VCA is only updated when a trigger is received. The addition of a noise circuit for each side allows you to create a very quick and easy sample and hold that never drops. With no input, 5V is normalised to the attenuator, so you get a 0-5V sample and hold. In bipolar mode, you get -5 to +5V.
